WHY AND WHAT PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION OF YOURS IS COLLECTED

Setting up your Sosido account and profile

We have set up an account for you on Sosido because either (1) you have requested an account directly from Sosido, or (2) a group or association of which you are a member has requested a Sosido account on your behalf, as a benefit of your membership in that group or association. View a list of the associations/groups currently on Sosido Communities Page.

In order to set up your account, we collect your name, email address, employer/work institution, city, professional practice area (e.g., oncology, nephrology), and professional role (e.g., physician, nurse). This information may be provided to us by your group/association, by you directly, or we may collect this information from publicly-available online profiles (e.g., your LinkedIn or university/hospital website). Once your account and basic profile is set up by Sosido, you may be offered the opportunity to provide additional information in your Sosido profile; this additional information is entirely optional and can be altered or removed by you at any time.

IP Addresses
Every computer connected to the Internet is given a domain name and a set of numbers that serve as that computer’s Internet Protocol or “IP” address. When you request a page from any page within the Site, our web servers automatically recognize your domain name and IP address. The domain name and IP address reveal nothing personal about you other than the IP address from which you have accessed the Site.

Opt Out Procedures
Upon initial communication from Sosido, you may opt-out of receiving further communications from Sosido. Unsubscribe instructions will be included on all email communications to you. To have your profile removed from Sosido and be completely removed from the Sosido mailing list, you may contact contact@sosido.com.

HOW THE INFORMATION IS USED

Use of Your Personally Identifiable Information
We use the personal information collected to:

  1. set up an account and profile for you on Sosido. Profiles are available only to other members of Sosido, and will not be available to the general public. By default, your name, city, practice area and professional role (not your email address) are available to fellow Sosido members through your Sosido profile. (You can choose to display your email address as an additional piece of information on your profile.)

  2. customize the content you receive through Sosido.

  3. send you communications from Sosido directly related to your participation in Sosido, including the Sosido email digest, notice of your new publications added to your Sosido profile, notice of new questions from your association colleagues, etc.

Whenever we collect or process your personal data, Sosido will keep it for as long as necessary for the purpose for which it is collected.

Use of Personal Health Information

Sosido does not collect personal health information about patients or individuals, and prohibits members from disclosing patient-identifying information on the site (see Sosido Terms of Use). The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) privacy rule, which took effect on April 14, 2003, allows for the use of de-identified health information so long as identifiers have been “stripped” and a key is not disclosed that would allow the information to be re-identified. Sosido does not possess a key to re-identify patient data.

Sosido Q&A and Comments

It is important to remember that whenever you voluntarily disclose your personal information in a Sosido forum, that information can be collected and used by others who have access to your association’s/group’s community on Sosido. You are not permitted to share patient-identifying data on www.sosido.com or in email correspondence to Sosido (see Sosido Terms of Use). You will be solely responsible for all personal or patient-identifying information that you post on Sosido.

MORE ABOUT INDUSTRY SPONSORSHIP ON SOSIDO

In order to provide Sosido as a free service to you, and to your association, some of the associations on the network are supported by industry sponsorship. Sosido is absolutely committed to ensuring a transparent and unbiased network. If the trust of our members is compromised, Sosido will not succeed.

Benefits of sponsorship

Industry sponsors of your association on Sosido may have corporate member accounts on the network. They may have access to the members’ area of the network, including the member publications, Q&A and member profiles, and they may receive a subscription to the Sosido Digest highlighting activity on the network. Industry sponsors may receive recognition on the site and in communications with members. If additional benefits of sponsorship are added in future, they will be approved by your association and fully disclosed to you.

Assurances against industry bias on the network

We have the following rules of industry engagement:

We select and work with industry partners that are committed to supporting an open exchange of knowledge and networking, with the goal of supporting your association to connect its members and ultimately facilitating better care for patients.

All conditions of sponsorship with industry are approved by your association/group.

If an industry sponsor contributes content to the network, it will be approved by your association/group and that content will be clearly marked as created or supported by an industry sponsor.

Industry sponsors have no influence over member-generated content on the site; sponsors have neither the right nor the technical ability to edit, delete, promote or demote member-generated content on Sosido.

Industry sponsors do not have access to any additional personal information about you, beyond that which is available to all members through your Sosido profile and through your activity on the network.

No pharmaceutical or device manufacturing companies hold any ownership interest of any kind in Sosido Networks.

Duties of industry sponsors

Please note that, if an industry sponsor becomes aware of content on the Site (e.g., discussion in the Q&A) about one of their products that may meet the criteria for a reportable adverse event, they are obligated to have a representative follow up with you for further details.
